About Norma Mirsky
Norma Mirsky is a luxury realtor located in Palm Beach County, Southern Florida. In 1983, Norma was the youngest Real Estate Broker in South Florida and founded her own boutique operation, Mirsky Realty Group, in 1987. After success in the real estate industry, Norma continues to run Mirsky Realty Group, fulfilling her passion of helping people by catering to the specific needs of each client as well as serving on the Professional Standards Committee of the Palm Beach Board of Realtors. In addition to her penchant for helping people, Norma Mirsky also has always had a love for music.
Growing up in El Cid, West Palm Beach, Florida, Norma was constantly surrounded by music. Norma’s father was the President of the Palm Beach Civic Association. Her mother was President of the Palm Beach Symphonettes, a local music group of which Norma served on the Board of Directors in the ‘90s. Her father would bring musicians from all over the world to play at the West Palm Beach Auditorium and Flagler Museum. Not just arranging for musicians to perform in Palm Beach, Norma’s parents would also offer their home as a place to stay, giving Norma unique access to great music. Artists from all over the globe would play world-class music right in their living room. Norma and her brothers were both heavily influenced by their parents’ love for music and the continuous company and performances of extremely talented pianists, violinists and more. Her brother Brian is an accomplished pianist and violinist. He played with the Princeton Orchestra and continues to perform throughout Palm Beach County. He was concert master at Palm Beach Atlantic College, as well as the Florida Atlantic University Orchestra, Peabody Prep Orchestra, and continues his passion as a professional piano accompanist.
Norma is a musician herself, although with children and her own business, she has not been as active in her recent years. She grew up dancing as a ballerina and playing the piano. Dancing, in addition to her musically oriented family, was another entrance into her love for music. Dancing necessitates syncing your body with music, especially ballet. In terms of playing the piano, classical music is still her favorite, particularly that of Mozart and Beethoven. While Norma did have an experience performing for others when she played Moonlight Sonata in the fifth grade, she much prefers to play alone, using music as a personal mode of expression. She loves the intense passion in music; her favorite music is that which speaks to the heart.
Music and Education
Norma earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Florida and, not surprisingly, sees a connection between music and education. She believes that music has great value in education, especially for children at a young age. Learning about music is beneficial in two ways: it teaches both discipline in focusing on self-improvement and appreciation of something beautiful and creative. There is a time to follow the music and stay within rhythm and then a time to divert from the written music and flow as you choose. Especially if you are playing with others in a group, it helps one to learn to listen to those around and play in harmony or play in a way that complements those around you.
Aside from music, Norma and her kids get involved in the community and bring Christmas gifts to families in need. They’ve brought gifts to a hospital cancer ward, sponsored gifts for children, and made stuffed animals for local children’s charities at Build-a-Bear.
